Frank H Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies Awarded: Eight Students Finish the School Year with Major Scholarships

$2M awarded from the Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies since 1989

STELLARTON, N.S. – Eight business students studying at Atlantic Canadian universities have each received $30,000 as recipients of the 2019-2020 Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies. 

These award recipients, selected by a Board of Directors comprised of Atlantic Canadian business and academic leaders, are chosen from over 30 finalists based on their entrepreneurship, supporting the communities in which they live and work, and their employment experience. 

“Since 1989, the Frank H. Sobey Awards have been awarded to 189 emerging business leaders from Atlantic Canada. Every year, our Board is overwhelmed by the talent, leadership and entrepreneurialism shining through students at Atlantic Canadian Business Schools. The talent that these young business minds bring to this region is inspiring to us all.” said Paul D. Sobey, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies.

The award recipients of the 2019-2020 Frank H. Sobey Award for Excellence in Business Studies are: 

  • Rose Schoonhoven, Dalhousie University
  • Tatum Freigang, Dalhousie University
  • Shaelynn Barry, Memorial University
  • Russell Wnuck, Mount Saint Vincent University
  • Haissam Tene Fongang, Université de Moncton
  • Zackery Montreuil, University of Prince Edward Island
  • Mairi McKinnon, St. Francis Xavier University
  • Taylor Kennah, St. Francis Xavier University

These exceptional business students and future leaders, along with the Deans of their respective Business Faculties, will be honoured at a ceremony at the Crombie House on March 5, 2020.

The Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies currently presents eight awards of $30,000 each. All full-time business students attending Atlantic universities are eligible for consideration. Deans of Business at each university nominate candidates based on entrepreneurship, supporting the communities in which they live and work, and their employment experience. 

Established in 1989, the Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies have awarded more than $2 Million to business students in the four Atlantic Provinces. Each university in the region offering a business program has had at least one recipient of a Frank H. Sobey Award.
